Create a Screencast on my Macbook - QuickTime Player

This article will explain the most efficient way to create a Screencast on your Macbook using the applications which are already installed.

Quicktime player is installed on your Macbook as a part of the MacOS operating system.  While the primary use of the application is to play video files, it also has the ability to record videos, audio and create screen recordings (Screencasts).

  1. Locate the Application in Finder or via Spotlight Search
  2. Movie Recording - From the top menu select File > "New Movie Recording"
    • Select the appropriate Camera and Microphone
    • Record your Video
    • Press the Stop Button
  3. Screen Recording - From the top menu select File > "New Screen Recording"
    • Select the appropriate section of the screen you wish to record
    • Select the correct microphone
    • Record your Video
    • Press the Stop Button
  4. Once you have stopped recording you can select Edit > Trim (CMD + T) to trim any unwanted sections of the video
  5. Select File > Save to save your final video
